If you’re a very close fan of the Compas Direct group Zin, you might have been paying close attention lately to their stage presence. If you were, you would’ve noticed the stage chemistry that use to be there is now lacking big time.
Since the departure of Daphne, the fans had to witness Alex and the other members work overtime to prove that “Zin is an institution” not a band. Meaning; any member can leave but there will always be a Zin. But one can only wonder if that only applies to the female singers. None of the head honchos were ever kicked out nor did they quit Zin.
The band has been rotating female artists since their very first album. Zin has had a record high of 7 women since they came into existence. And the saga continues even though Zin has been the only Konpa band in the last decade to have success with lead female vocalists.
When the album “Yo Pou Zin” came out, Zin seemed to be on top of the world, they had two female singers, both had their own song on the album giving them the opportunity to shine individually which had never been the case in Zin before that break. the move proved to be a good one for the band and the whole industry and soon after, other bands started to take notes.
Before we knew it, Magguy Foreste moved on to pursue a career in Nursing, a good move for her and one that didn’t seem to hurt Zin either cause in the public’s eye, it was a mutual decision. And still today, Magguy Foreste remains the only female artist from Zin to pursue a professional career outside of Zin and the music industry.
We have watched Magguy Foreste, Zshea Caze, Magdala Desgrottes, Georgy Mettelus, Shirley D, recently parted member Daphne Dary and current member Nia Mahotiere shine in front Zin but never on their own. The reason for the women coming and going was always blamed on Alex Abellard. Nonetheless, some of the women proved to be very inconsistent and/or unreliable even after leaving Zin.
Which raises the question; Is it Really the women that are the problem.
Is Alex Abellard the problem?
Should Zin issue contracts to the members that protect both the members and the band?
