Police responded to the home at 2265 SW Lawrence St. after receiving a call about the shooting at 3:39 p.m. The woman, whose name was not released, ran outside to a neighbor’s house while carrying a child after a bullet grazed the back of her head. There was no indication that the child was hurt, Port St. Lucie Police Department spokesman Tom Nichols said. After evacuating three houses, a SWAT team negotiator tried to establish communication with Maignan. After receiving no response for hours, police pitched tear gas into the house and got no response. They then entered the house and found Maignan, 40, dead in the bedroom from a single gunshot wound.

In January 2007, police and Federal Communications Commission officials shut down an illegal radio operation at Maignan’s Port St. Lucie home that was broadcasting on the frequency of 106.1 FM. Maignan faced federal charges for interfering with a radio station licensed by the FCC.
